GolenGate Software's Real-Time Data
Integration Solution Helps Polish Railways with Business
Analysis & Planning
GoldenGate Software will be used by one of Europe's
largest railway operators to ensure the availability of
real-time data across their HP NonStop and Oracle 10g
Linux environment to Improve Reporting & Analysis
GoldenGate Software Inc. (www.goldengate.com), the
leading provider of high availability and real-time data
integration solutions, recently announced that it is
working with PKP Informatyka, part of Polish State
Railways (PKP), to ensure real-time access to key data
for improved reporting and analysis. The data about the
number of train tickets sold, timetables and ticket
prices is held in an Enscribe and SQL database running
on HP NonStop. Additionally, PKP Informatyka has
deployed an Oracle 10g database running on Linux for all
the reporting and analysis activities.
Using GoldenGate, the data is moved in real-time
between the databases running on the HP NonStop
platform, where the core transactional application
resides, to the Oracle database.
Having the transactional data in the Oracle database
means that it will now be possible for PKP to use
advanced software tools for reporting and analytics.
This will allow a high degree of business intelligence
and reporting for PKP to have minute by minute access to
information about revenue being generated and demand for
its services on routes and destinations within its
network.
PKP Informatyka, part of the PKP Group, is
responsible for supplying the companies within the PKP
Group with IT solutions and support. One of the
solutions it has supplied is the Group's booking and
ticketing system. Wiktor Zak, Vice Director at PKP
Informatyka, who is in charge of the project to
implement the new system, said: "We plan to maximize the
advantages of our new HP platform to help passenger
forwarders understand the sales and revenue situation
from PKP's ticketing operations on a daily and hourly
basis.
Key to the success of this is the use of GoldenGate's
real-time data integration solution which updates our
application and reporting systems pretty much at the
same time and this allows PKP to perform accurate and
timely analysis."
GoldenGate is also used for the creation of an
on-line copy of the production database on to another HP
NonStop computer for disaster recovery in case of
outages in the main system.
PKP Informatyka decided to use GoldenGate because it
was recommended by another Polish company already using
GoldenGate. In addition, it was found to be the most
effective solution of its type available for the
business and technical level requirements needed to
support the project. The project will be fully
implemented in the second half of 2007.
"GoldenGate is critical to the success of this
project and its ongoing value to PKP as an effective
integration technology," concluded Zak.
Richard Dobber, GM for EMEA at GoldenGate BV, said:
"Increasingly the supply of real-time business data is
critical to the successful management and day to day
running of modern businesses. Our software addresses the
critical issue of delivering and integrating data in
real-time between disparate applications to allow the
successful operation of key business processes and
analysis of data."
