New Chairman for the Transport
Research Foundation
Charles Rice has succeeded Sir David Hardy, as Chairman of the
Transport Research Foundation which was created in 1996 to acquire TRL,
the UK’s national Transport Research Laboratory. Sir David was the
Foundation’s first Chairman. He formally stood down at the Annual
General Meeting which was held at TRL’s facility in Crowthorne on
Wednesday 25th July 2007.
Charles Rice paid tribute to the out-going Chairman, saying “Sir
David has offered wise counsel over his 11 years in office and has
provided extensive experience and support to the Company during its
transition from the public to the private sector’.
On his own appointment, Charles commented that he was delighted to be
taking on the role as Chairman, having been a Non-Executive Director for
two years. “I am particularly looking forward to working with the board
and staff at TRL to build on the opportunities opening up for the
company at home and abroad. Policy makers and transport managers face
many new challenges from congestion, climate change and security issues
among others. TRL is well placed to help them address these issues’.
